1968 CESSNA 177 Cardinal
Fairport, NYAFTT: 4200, SMOH: 1100
$95,000
Beautiful 1968 Cessna Cardinal. IFR certified with a mid time engine, perfect for training or IFR flying. If you are shopping for a Cherokee or 172, the Cardinal will blow it out of the water. You'll cruise at 135 MPH (117 knots) on 7.5GPH with as much cabin room as a Cirrus (49 inch cabin width).
I used this airplane to build time and get my Instrument rating. I've put an Electronics International R-1 digital tach in it a few weeks ago. My annual was $5k, which included new mags and hoses, and a completely re rigged flap system with new microswitches and a new flap motor. I've flown this airplane about 150 hours in the past year, mostly on XC trips. The paint was done in 2003, but it's in very good condition and I get compliments wherever I go on it. The interior is original but in great shape with minimal cracks or tears in the plastic. The headliner is in great shape. The door seals are not in the best shape, but I've flown this airplane on the coldest winter days (Always Hangared) with no issues. (Tanis heater installed)
The wing spar AD will be included in the sale. When the pre buy was done, I had a visual inspection done of the spar and no corrosion was noted. Because this was before the AD came out, it was not in the logbooks, and I have no doubt that it will pass. I'll pay for it to be done during the pre buy.
I'm looking to upgrade to a complex airplane (Mooney, Arrow, Comanche) because my mission is changing. Don't let those who have never flown a Cardinal fool you, the 68's are not underpowered. I cruise faster and climb faster than any 172 or Cherokee. If you fly her by the numbers you'll never want to step into a 172 ever again!
